Christmas Tree Mystery in June

Because we are surrounded by greenbelt (a "strip" of forested land), we routinely bequeath our Christmas tree upon the land (i.e., dump it in the forest) each January.

As I was hauling and spreading chips around the lawn this afternoon, I looked onto the forested hill below me and noticed the Christmas tree that we dumped there almost SIX months ago! It is still as green as they day we bought it in December! It has no roots to sustain it because it was most assuredly chopped down sometime around last November, and yet it seems to be alive!

I'm thinking that there's a good possibility that we can save money on a Christmas tree about six months from now...

The real mystery to me is how you keep your strip of woods so clear of blackberries! Ours is so full of them you can't venture 18" into it without ripping your clothes to shreds.
