It's Official! They're WAZZU Cougs!

Congratulations, Peter and Danelle!

Elisabeth made them the pillow for Christmas, anticipating their acceptance.

And now, to write the first of many (many) checks...

(No word yet from UW, although Aleks and Kat anxiously await the mail each day. Meanwhile, Elisabeth is waiting to hear from Seattle University's Nurse Practitioner master's program... and I await word from a few different employers -- one of whom really excites me. Nope, there's not a dull moment around here!)

Congratulations to them, nice pillow! I'll keep my fingers crossed for Aleks and Kat (and for you as well, of course). But what does "cougs" mean exactly (I couldn't find it in any dictionary)...?

Thanks Sandy! "COUGS" means "cougars," the WAZZU (that's "Washington State University") mascot.

Ah, thanks, Carol. The meaning of WAZZU I'd guessed somehow.

But another question that caught my attention is the difference between "X State University" and "University of X" (because, as I understand, many, if not all, US-states have at least two of the above mentioned universities with X substituted by the according state). What's exactly the difference between them, in particular regarding Washington (State)? (Sorry for asking 'annoying' basics like this...)

Hmmmm.... not sure what the "official" answer would be, but the reputation in the states where I've lived (California and Washington) is that the "U of___" is of somewhat higher academic caliber that the the "___ State," though I know that, in many cases and certainly in many specific areas of study, that's NOT the case.

Alright, thanks for clearing up! (I just realize that even living in different timezones allows some kind of 'live' communication; here it's currently 05:07 am...)

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes! Congrats to Peter and Danelle, and sending GOOD VIBES and thoughts to you, Elisabeth, Aleks and Kat for all good things to come your ways.

I hope they are looking forward to next year! You probably aren't looking forwardto getting the tuition bills... one of my sons is going to a university in the US and even though he has managed to qualify as a resident, the bill is still enormous by German standards.
