They're Dropping Like... College Students!

Kat signed a lease tonight. On September 1st, she'll be moving into a townhouse near UW with three other (really nice) room mates. This has been a few weeks in the making, but with Peter moving out -- well, I can only deal with one coop-fleeing kid at a time.

Sigh.
But really, I can't help but be excited for Kat. Her house mates, all of whom she met in the past few weeks through her quest for the right place to live and the right people to live with, are amazingly nice and I have a feeling Kat will really spread her wings there, making new friends, living independently (but within a few miles of both Aleks at the frat and Elisabeth in Wallingford), and "coming into her own."

This weekend we'll be going to Ikea to buy some furniture, bedding and all the fun things that one gets when she has a place of her own. Was it really almost two years ago that we did this with Elisabeth?!

So I'm gonna stop whining -- at least for tonight -- and be thrilled for my kids, their new independence, and the very distict beginning of their independent adult lives. No promises about how I'll feel tomorrow, but for tonight, that's my approach.

Be free, my children! Fly safely and be well. And come home every Sunday for dinner, ya hear?!

Carol, I'm feeling your pain although I've got two years before I have to worry about letting my first one fly free.

You know you've done a good job when they are all ready to go. Sigh...

Oh! I have to send you info on this book my mom was telling me about - it's essays about empty nesting and it was edited by someone in your neck of the woods, I believe. I'll get the name from her and let you know.

Kat looks VERY happy in the photo. Their joy should help with all the sadness of the empty house.

Hugs on this... I can't even imagine it.
